Climb Every Mountain

I‘m not a mountain climber, but like many of you I do love to hike in the mountains and hills.  The majestic trees, fresh air, and spectacular views are well worth the effort made in the ascension.

Life is in essence a mountain climb, especially on the spiritual path.  Every day offers new challenges and rewards for our efforts in learning to love, making a contribution to others, self-awareness, and quieting the mind.   Spiritual teachers assert it is worth the effort, and the glimpses we experience of those lofty vistas affirm that and spur us on.

At the New Year, we often create intentions for the next twelve months – somewhat lofty goals, at least a bit out of our reach but within view.   I do that every year, focusing some of those intentions on inner growth, and others on outer creation.

I’m sharing with you a lofty goal I have in mind – writing a book.  It’s a scary confession, as by making it public, I set the intention to follow through with it.  I have had this in mind for a number of years, and now it feels like the right time, the right concept, and the right reasons for doing it.

This feels like a very big mountain to climb.  And like facing a daunting ascent, we may feel like turning back.  I sometimes have doubts that arise – that this is too big, I can’t do it, how will I ever find the time or discipline?  How can I achieve this without burning myself out and falling out of balance in my life, like I have before?  Who am I to write a book?

I was sitting in a spiritual community on Sunday, pondering my intended task ahead, and recognized that I had a number of false beliefs in the way of undertaking this project.  They included:

• I have to be perfect in every way in order to write or create

• I have to know everything about the topic

• I am totally responsible for all the content myself

• I have to do it alone

As I looked at the beliefs I had written down, I laughed and heaved a sigh of relief.  I knew they were false!   It is insane to think that I could even be perfect, let alone that anyone who has ever written anything was perfect before they did.  I don’t need to be the total expert in order to have something worth saying.  I can open to receive inspiration from something greater than myself, and also interview others who know something about it.

And I know I’m not alone.  Many of us feel that we are all alone on this path we are walking.  But that fact in itself means that we have each other, our fellow seekers, joining us on the many paths up the mountain.  I know that everyone who has ever wanted to write, create, or endeavor to manifest something greater than themselves has the support of those who have come before them, who know the trail and have walked it.

Most certainly, in my opinion, we have the support of the Divine itself, the infinite Source of all creation.  What could be better than plugging into That?  Nature, too, shows all around us that there is no end to creative energy and possible expression.  And Love, that infinite expression of our highest good, is available within you and me right here and now to nurture creation. Nature, Spirit, Love, and you all fuel my drive to bring this to fruition.

So I am asking for your support.  If you feel inspired, let me know you believe in my book and my vision to let it manifest.  And I offer you mine – that I believe in you, and your ability to ascend a bit more of that mountain this year.  We came here into this life, onto the planet, to step into something greater.  Each one of us.  It’s why we incarnate – we wouldn’t show up here if it weren’t possible.  It is not only possible, it is your destiny: to climb every mountain before you.

To inspire you in your journey up that mountain, I offer a winter meditation that I gave on my radio show December 28th - Entering the Silence.  Listen to it anytime to help you find the quiet place inside.  Then, join me for the  Awakening Self Radio Show with guest Amy Lansky, author of  the well-known book Impossible Cure, for an enlightening discussion on Homeopathy and Synchronicity.  Friday, January 22nd, 1:30-2pm, or on-demand afterwards.

While pondering my big intentions in church on Sunday, a woman sang “Climb Every Mountain,” from The Sound of Music. It brought tears to my eyes.  I could see that my whole life has been about stepping up that trail, slowly winding into higher and greater perspectives, and deeper understanding.  Stopping from time to time to catch my breath and enjoy the view, and then throwing the pack on my back and making my way up the incline again.  I have been called to grow and to share, and I believe you have, too.  Let’s climb together.  This is the year, the time is now – and in every moment, for every mountain.  Sí Se Puede – Yes, You Can.

Climb every mountain,
Search high and low,
Follow every highway,
Every path you know.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
'Till you find your dream.

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream

A dream that will need
All the love you can give,
Every day of your life,
For as long as you live.

Climb every mountain,
Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow,
Till you find your dream.

January's Show:

Homeopathy and Synchronicity with guest Amy Lansky

Friday, January 22nd, 1:30-2pm Pacific / 4:30pm Eastern / 9:30pm GMT / 8:30am Sydney Sat. Jan. 23rd

Could it be that two mysterious phenomena — the healing power of homeopathy and synchronicity (meaningful coincidences) — are related to one another?  Rev. Connie welcomes Amy Lansky PhD, author of Impossible Cure (www.impossiblecure.com) and Active Consciousness  (www.activeconsciousness.com) for a conversation on these compelling experiences of awareness and healing.  Both homeopathy and synchronicity are based upon similarity in vibration. Indeed, the fact that homeopathic remedies actually cure may provide us with information about the power and mechanism of the messages we receive through synchronous experience.

Last Month's Show:

Meditation and Inspiration - Entering the Silence

Winter has arrived and the long nights, animals in hibernation, and chill of overnight frost naturally call us inward.  There's no better time to seek out the still, quiet place within than this time of year.  Let's honor the season with a little ritual - I invite you to have a white candle nearby - and enter into the silence, listening to the quiet voice of Spirit in your soul.

Spiritual Quotes

"Encouraging is not a push or a pat on the back. It is a listening, a courageous willingness to hold all the sorrow, the set-backs, the regrets, the dreams, the doubts, the resistance, the shocking uglies and the darkest shadows living in another’s heart and not lose heart or cast them out of your heart. Encouraging is powerful holding of a vision in your heart of the glorious vision that lives in the heart of yourself, another, humanity, nature, spirit, or the future."

~ Lynn Jericho

"...If you want to last,
hold on to nothing. If you want
to know love, let in everything.
If you want to feel the presence
of everything, stop counting the
things that break along the way."

~ Mark Nepo
