As the Boom Swings Over - November 2016

Greetings, friends and students -

My newsletter is late...  I felt the need to sit with what has happened here in the US with the election, and what wanted to be said about it.  You can read my heartfelt calling in my Blog Post, "As the Boom Swings Over: What I Learned from the Election," below...

Many of us have been sitting with our feelings about the election results, and feel called to connect and dialogue about it.  I invite you to join me at Monthly Morning Yoga and Meditation this Friday the 18th in Palo Alto from 9:45-11:45am, as we explore through discussion and practice the polarity of Right/Wrong and how we can transcend it.  This class is always offered by donation.

Here's what is coming up - and note another Day-Long Retreat in January (mark your calendars!)

• Monthly Morning Yoga & Meditation (MMYM) is coming up this Friday, November 18th, 9:45-11:45am

• Winter Day-Long Suburban Retreat - Sound, Energy, and Intention: Sunday, January 22nd at Subud House in Palo Alto

• Spring Day-Long Retreat - "Expressing Creative Energy": Saturday, April 29th at Ananda Valley Farm in Half Moon Bay

I would like to offer a sanskrit prayer for you to contemplate and explore (and please see the Prayer of St. Francis at the bottom under Spiritual Quotes):

Asato Ma Sat Gamaya

Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya

Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya

From Untruth to Truth, lead me.  From Darkness to Light, lead me.  From Death to Immortality, lead me.  (Brhadaranyaka Upanishad — I.iii.28)

As the Boom Swings Over - What I Learned from the 2016 Election

When I was in 6th grade, my girl scout troop did a boating class at the local harbor in Newport Beach, CA. It included canoeing (my favorite – I loved to steer!), rowing (I sucked at), and sailing (I equally sucked at, and also found terrifying). Although boating wasn’t my favorite activity, especially sailing, I did learn some important things from this.

One time, my friend Roseanne and I were paired for sailing. It was a small two-person boat, just big enough for us. The wind was pretty strong, and we were at about a 90 degree angle from it. This is a strong angle to be able to control. I don’t remember which one of us was pulling on the sheet (the rope that holds the sail), but the wind came on so strong that the boat tilted us up almost on its side, and we came close to capsizing. Yikes!

Spiritual Quotes

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
