The seven chakras (literally, “wheels”) are the main energy centers in the body according to yoga philosophy. They reside in our energetic field, the Pranamayakosha, and are generally aligned with the spine and cranium. Each class focuses on one or more chakras, with specific postures, movements, mudras (gestures), mantras, and even visualizations (such as color and form) particular to that chakra. Then, the theme of that energy center and its physical location becomes the focus of the practice. Each chakra governs essential aspects of life.

1st – 3rd Chakras

This Level 2 class focuses on the first 3 of the 7 energy centers, or chakras, along the spine: the Muladhara, Svadhishthana, and Manipura chakras.  You’ll move through earth, water, and fire elements, explore stability, cohesiveness, sensuality, empowerment, and more, while practicing a slow flow of standing and seated poses, backbends, forward bends, hip openers, and twists.  Focus is on feet, pelvis, low and mid back, and abdomen.  Great for all levels, especially intermediate students.  Includes chanting, mudras, and visualization.

4th and 5th Chakras

This Level 2 class focuses on the 4thand 5th of the 7 energy centers, or chakras, along the spine: the Anahatha and Visuddha chakras.  You’ll move through air and ether elements, explore unconditional love, balance, expression, communication, and more, while practicing a slow flow of standing and seated poses, arm and standing balances, and shoulderstand.  Focus is on the chest, arms, upper back, neck, and throat.  Great for all levels, especially intermediate students.  Includes chanting, mudras, and visualization.

6th and 7th Chakras

This Level 2 class focuses on the 6th and 7th of the 7 energy centers, or chakras, along the spine: the Ajna and Sahasrara chakras.  You’ll explore intuition, insight, transcendence, consciousness, and more, while practicing a slow flow of standing and seated poses, work towards inversions, and meditation.  Focus is on forehead, neck, and crown of the head. Great for all levels, especially intermediate students.  Includes chanting, mudras, and visualization.
